“A Trivial Comedy for Serious People.’” "Earnest" is a time-honored play about two young gents who have taken to bending the truth in order to put some excitement into their lives. Jack Worthing (Trey Varner) has invented a brother, Earnest, whom he uses as an excuse to leave his dull life behind to visit Gwendolyn Bracknell (Maci Clark). Algernon Montcrieff (ElijahFontanez) decides to take the name Earnest when visiting Worthing's young and beautiful ward, Cecily Cardew (Ally Suchy). Things start to go awry when they end up together in the country and their deceptions are discovered. Additional cast members include: Lady Bracknell (Taelyr Blehm), Miss Prism (Abigail Koech), Chasuble/Lane (Gage Brown), and Merriman (Shayla Gould). The play is under the direction of Erin Renard.
BOARD OF EDUCATION MODIFIES MEETING SCHEDULE
The Board of Education adopted a resolution on February 13th to modify their regular monthly meeting dates from the second Monday of each month to the third Monday of each month for the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year beginning in April. The new meeting dates include:

April 17, 2017
May 15, 2017
June 19, 2017
July 17, 2017
All meetings will be held at the Central Administration Office located at 802 N. Main in Russell beginning at 5:30 p.m. All meetings are open to the public and patrons are encouraged to attend.
Meeting dates for the 2017-2018 school year will be established at the July 17, 2017 organizational meeting.
SCHMIDT NAMED AS RHS PRINCIPAL
On December 19, 2016, the USD 407 Board of Education unanimously approved Donna Schmidt as the Principal at Russell High School beginning Ju ly 1, 2017.
Ms. Schmidt has be en an Assistant Principal at Seaman High School in Shawnee County for the past 13 years. She is also in charge of Activities and Curriculum in her current role as Assistant Principal. Ms. Schmidt was recognized as Kansas Association of Secondary School Principals (KASSP) Area 1 Assistant Principal of the Year in 2014.
