NO SCHOOL – FEBRUARY 9th

Due to the extreme illness that our staff and students are currently experiencing, Russell County, USD 407 will not be in attendance Friday, February 9th. There will be no evening or weekend activities.

As of Thursday at 2:30 p.m. the following percentage of student absences due to illness by building were reported:

Simpson Elementary-32%
Bickerdyke Elementary-23%
RMS-19%
RHS-8%
District 20.5%

The following activities for February 9th-12th, have been postponed or cancelled:

February 9th
BB at RHS vs. Beloit – Moved to February 19th
SNAP Soup Supper – Moved to February 19th
Winter Sports Dance – To be determined

February 10th
RHS FFA Meats Contest – cancelled
RMS Wrestling – cancelled
RHS JV BB@ SE Saline – cancelled
Forensics-cancelled

February 11th and 12th
Spring Play @ RMS Auditorium rescheduled February 17th @ 7p.m. and February 18th @ 2 p.m.

USD 407 officials in conjunction with the County Health Nurse urges everyone to take extreme care in monitoring the health of your student/s. Currently, there have been multiple confirmed cases of Influenza A, Influenza B, Mononucleosis and Strep Throat in our community. If your child/children are experiencing any of the following symptoms, please seek medical attention as soon as possible!

  • A fever of 100.4 or higher
  • Persistent Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Difficulty Breathing
  • Chest Congestion

The health, wellness and safety of our students and staff are of our utmost concern and priority.   USD 407 officials understand the seriousness of this issue in our community and throughout the region and are working diligently to do everything we possibly can in our buildings to maintain a safe, sanitary environment for our students and staff.

We urge all of you to please do your part in helping us by taking the following measures at home:

  1. Seeking medical attention for your children when necessary
  2. Keeping students home who are not feeling well
  3. Avoiding crowds and events if at all possible
  4. If you do have to be in large gatherings, the health office and Physicians Clinic have masks available
  5. Washing coats, bedding, clothing etc…
  6. Wiping down books, book bags, door knobs etc…with disinfectant wipes

USD 407 will continue to work closely with County Health Officials to monitor and work through this situation.  After consultation with the County Health Nurse on Friday, a determination regarding school on Monday will be made.
