USD 407 has been exploring the advantages and disadvantages of joining to special education cooperative for a period of time stretching nearly 10 years. The most recent conversations began in 2018 and have resulted in collaboration between West Central Kansas Special Education Cooperative (WCKSEC) and USD 407.
WCKSEC is based in Hays as a part of the USD 489 Board of Education. The current member districts are Hays, Ellis, LaCrosse, and Victoria. Those districts and their boards of education have all been receptive to the idea of USD 407 entering the cooperative on a designed 3 year plan that would be complete as of July 1, 2025.
It is likely that USD 407 will receive an official invitation to join the West Central Kansas Special Education Cooperative on or about April 1, 2022. The USD 407 Board of Education will consider that invitation and respond with an official vote to accept or reject that invitation within 30-60 days from receipt of the invite.
