USD 407 Approves Reopening Plan and New 2020 School Calendar

At a special work session meeting on July 27, 2020, the USD 407 Board of Education approved the plans to reopen schools and adjusted the start date to do so.

USD 407 students will begin the 2020 Fall Semester on Wednesday, September 2.  The adjustment moves the originally approved calendar from August 26 to one week later September 2.  Students PK-12 will begin the year as published by the adapted plans based in COVID reopening.  Each building will communicate those plans with parents and community as they finalize.

“The purpose of the calendar adjustment is to prepare the teachers, staff, and our building operations to be ready for a successful start of the school year,” says Shelly Swayne, USD 407 Superintendent of Schools.  “The planning to be prepared to teach under the wellness guidelines is intense.  Teachers asked for some time to be best prepared, and we voted to give them what they need.”

The plans to re-open schools were also approved by the Board of Education in the same motion, which passed 6-1.  USD 407 continues to communicate with the community, families, and staff to create the best opportunities for successful enrollment and start of the school year.
