Russell County Area Community Foundation (RCACF) has awarded USD 407 a $2,000 grant to target family engagement and reading for 0-6 year olds! This a wonderful way to build family time and encourage the building of children’s libraries. USD 407 will host a series of reading nights this summer at 6:00 p.m. at the Russell Public Library.
At each 0-6 Reading Night, a book will be highlighted in which a guest reader will read to all children in attendance. This will model for parents or grandparents the reading and family engagement we hope to inspire. An activity will then take place that will model a fun way to engage a perspective of the book read with a creative opportunity for families to interact and build reading comprehension. Finally, we will provide a snack connected to the book to model engaging play for our families in the community. To end each event, every child 0-6 years will receive a copy of the book to take home with an overall review of what we participated in that evening.
