This was the first school built in the city of Russell in 1871. It was a small structure (18'X24') built on the corner of Sixth and Maple. Construction cost was $380. This school known as North Side Elem. School was built in 1922, on north Main Street where Simpson Elementary School stands today. This school was called South Side Grade School. It was built in 1922 at the site where Bickerdyke Elem. School stands today in the 300 block of Maple Street. Built in 1873, this school was known as Courtside and was built on the block which now houses Ruppenthal Middle School. This school was an early school built in the Luray area.
