12        Senior Awards Assembly – .May 16th at 8:15 a.m. in the Amos Morris Gymnasium

 

11,12   ACT test –Test dates:  June 14; (Reg. by May 9)      Register online at www.act.org

 

12        NCAA  Initial- Eligibility Clearinghouse – If you want to be eligible to play at the NCAA Division I or II level you should register with the NCAA Clearinghouse. Guides and forms are available.

12        Barton County Community College summer class schedules for Russell are available.  Enrollment is May 19, 7-8 p.m. in the RHS library.  The ASSET test will be given from 6-7 p.m.

 

OPPORTUNITIES

 

11        Interested in applying to go to the military academies for the Army, Navy, Air Force or Merchant Marine?  Write to Jerry Moran at:  P.O. Box 1128, Hutchinson, KS  67504 or www.jerry.moran.house.gov.  All required paperwork is due by October 1.

 

9-12     Air Force ROTC -  Interested in the Air Force?  ROTC can provide scholarships.  Apply or get info at:  www.AFROTC.com.  Both KU and KSU have Army and Air Force ROTC.

 

9-12     Kansas Investment Developing Scholars (KIDS) is a matching grant program administered by the Kansas State Treasurer’s Office.  The state of Kansas will match the first $600 of your contributions to a learning Quest account, Kansas 529 Education Savings Program.  2008 is the last year of this project.  Visit www.KansasStateTreasurer.com/KIDS for more info or to download an application.

 

11        Sunflower Bank Community Ambassadors – Juniors: if you would like to learn more about Russell and have a chance to win $1,000 in local scholarship money, pick up your application to be a Community Ambassador.  Due May 31

 

    1. Rotary Youth Leadership Academy -21st Century Leadership Skills- July 25-27

See Mr. Zachman for an application.  Local Rotary chooses two Russell area youth to attend and pays for their attendance.

 

 

SPECIFIC COLLEGES -  DATES OF INTEREST

 

9-11     Barton County Community College- Breaking Traditions- Career Exploration Opportunities  June 10-12.  This program is for 2008-09 9th, 10th & 11th graders.  Participants attend a camp to experience non-traditional fields of work such as Early childhood education and Medical Lab Technology for guys and Agriculture, Automotive, Computer networking Graphic Design, EMT & energy industry technician for girls.  Enroll by May 25 by calling LaVonne Gerritzen at 620-792-9210

Jumpstart program-  Intensive 4 week program  at BCCC that will prepare you for college courses.  July 13-August 8 from 8-4 each day.  Nine credit hours available.   Call 800-722-6842 for more information.  Cost is $150 non- refundable deposit.  Apply by June 1.

9- 12    Kansas Private College Week – June 2-6  - All 18 private colleges have programs this week.   Go to www.ksroadtrip.com to register or call 877-462-5729.  Open House programs begin at 9am and 1:30 pm.  Guided tours and meetings with staff and students.  Learn about Scholarships and financial aid opportunities.

 

12        Kansas State University - Wildcat Warm-up – June 13 to 15 or June 18-20.  Cost $150.  Opportunity for new freshmen to get a jump start at K- State.  Register at:  www.k-state.edu/wildcatwarmup by May 14 or call 800-432-8270.

 

12        North Central Kansas Technical College has a new Welding program.  Classes will begin in August and will be held on the Fort Hays State University campus for this 9 month certificate program.  Call1-888567-4297 for more information

 

SCHOLARSHIPS

 

12        Monsignor Clement A. Kruse Scholarship – Applicants must be an active registered member of a Catholic parish in the Diocese of Salina.  A letter from you pastor is required.  Apply by July 1.

 

12        Marymount Memorial Educational Trust Scholarship – Applicant must be an active registered member of a Catholic parish in the Diocese of Salina and must attend a Catholic college as a fully time student.  Apply by July 1.

 

  1. Wichita State University – Three major scholarship competitions November 14.   Scholarships in business, engineering, leadership and music range from $14,000 to $48,000!  Students must be admitted to WSU by October 10.  Requirements:  GPA 3.5  and ACT 24.  See counselor for details.
