Testing Services

    The guidance and counseling department organizes and supervises the following tests during the school year.

ACT Tests:

    ACT tests are required for entrance into any state college or university. Students are encouraged to take an ACT test in the spring of their Junior year. They may also test in the fall of their Senior year if they want improve their scores.

ACT Preparation:

    "Preparing for the ACT Assessment" booklets are available from the counselor. Each booklet includes general information, test taking tips and a complete practice test.

ACT Coach:

ACT Coach software is loaded on the computers in the RHS library.

SAT Tests:

    The SAT is not required at Kansas colleges and universities. Out-of-state schools may require the SAT 1 or SAT 2. Check with the counselor to see if your school of choice requires the SAT. The nearest test location is Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.

PLAN Test:

    Each fall sophomores at RHS take the PLAN test developed by ACT. Scores are used for Quality Performance Accreditation. Testing fees are paid by USD # 407.

PSAT- (Practice SAT)

    The PSAT is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholars program. Sophomores and Juniors may sign up and pay a small fee to take the PSAT in October. Only juniors can compete for the National Merit Scholar awards.

Kansas Assessments:

    Students at Russell High School take Kansas Assessments each spring. Tests are required. Scores are used for Quality Performance Accreditation.
