I am a member of NAfME (National Association for Music Educators) and I attend KMEA workshops each year.
I began teaching here in Russell in January 2017 right after I finished my student teaching and graduated from Fort Hays. I’m currently teaching 6-12 band which includes Beginning Band, Intermediate Band (7/8 grade), Concert Band, Marching Band, and Class Instrumental/Secondary Instrument.
Prior to coming to Russell, I was living in Lawrence, Kansas and doing my student teaching at Free State High School and Cordley Elementary. Russell is my first teaching job and I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to teach here.
Some previous teaching and leadership positions I have held have been Drum Major and Student Director at Fort Hays, Trombone/Low Brass Faculty at High Plains Music Camp, and I have given private trombone lessons for 5 years.
When I’m not teaching I enjoy taking trombone lessons and practicing so I can become a better musician. I love to play whatever gigs come my way whether it be jazz, orchestral, or concert band related. I also like to read and travel.
Some very cool gigs that I have gotten to play recently have been:
-March 2016 – FHSU Brass Ensemble – Performing one of my favorite FHSU professors and mentors, Dr. Jordan’s composition at a Dallas Wind Symphony concert and then watching the famous Eric Whitacre conduct the symphony
-Fall 2016 – Playing and performing with the KU Trombone Ensemble
-May 2017 – Performing Dvorak’s New World Symphony with the Hays Symphony Orchestra
-July 2017 – Performing in the HPMC Faculty Jazz Band with the famous Wycliffe Gordon
