        VFW Voice of Democracy Essay Contest

        The VFW Voice of Democracy Essay Contest is open to students in grades 9-12.  This year’s theme is                       “American      History:  Our Hope for the Future”.  Students should record their 3-5 minute reading of the draft to          an audio CD or flash drive. Due October 31. Submissions may be given to the RHS school                                          counselor.  Download Contest Rules and an Entry Form.

 

VFW Endowment Scholarship

Seniors must have a parent or grandparent who is a VFW member.  Applicant must provide the eligible VFW Post Number:  that is the Post or Ladies Auxiliary that the applicant’s parent or grandparent is actively affiliated with in the State of Kansas, or was so at the time of his/her death.  Deadline:  Turn in to Mr. Zachman or Fred Weigel January 31.    Download an application  in writable PDF form here.   Applications also at:  http://www.ksvfw.org  Go to Programs then Download Endowment Application.  Mr. Zachman has applications too

Russell High School Local Scholarship Packet

         Students may apply for up to twenty-four local scholarships by filling out the RHS Local Scholarship Packet application.              Download the packet, complete the application, print it and return it to the RHS Office on or before March 1.

 

Russell County Area Community Foundation Scholarships 

          Eleven Scholarships for Russell High School students.   Apply between November 1 and March 1.  Apply at:                               www.rcacf.net

RHS Class of 1952 ScholarshipDue March 1 - The members of the RHS Class of 1952 established this scholarship.  The intent was to assist a graduating senior in obtaining additional skills or education after the completion of High School.  Criteria for the scholarship is as follows, the student: (a) Shall be a resident of Russell County during the fall and spring semesters of the recipient’s senior year.  In addition, he/she shall be a RHS graduating senior at the end of the spring semester in which the scholarship is awarded. (b) Should be of good work ethic and of a high moral standard. (c) Shall submit a completed scholarship application to the Selection Committee by the designated deadline. (d) Shall provide documented proof that additional full-time schooling at a college, university, community college, or vocational technical school including   proprietary schools is being sought. (e) Shall not be discriminated against for ethnicity, religion, gender, high school grade point average, or athletic achievement.  Download Application

 

Pheasants Forever Scholarship- Due March 4 - Four $500 scholarships.  Scholarship criteria:  1) Must be a graduating senior  2)  Must be planning to attend a two or four year accredited university/college or a recognized technical training school   3) Each $500 scholarship will be presented upon completion of enrollment and acceptance in the college or school of choice. This scholarship is open to applicants from Russell, Hoisington and Wilson High School.  All students are encouraged to apply.  Download application.

 

FFA Roger Berry/Darrell Dumler Alumni ScholarshipDue March 11 - Any senior in FFA who is planning on a course of study at a college or university, or closely related vocational course of study at an approved Vo-Tech school or Community College.  Scholarship will be in the amount of $1000.  Half of the scholarship will be presented to the student and school at the beginning of the first semester of post-secondary education.  The balance will be presented at the beginning of the second semester.  Download Application

 

Russell County Farm Bureau ScholarshipDue March 14 –This $500 scholarship was established in memory of Randyl Becker, long time board member and President of Russell County Farm Bureau and Margaret Denning, long time board member and board Secretary.  The area graduating high school student must be a Russell County Farm Bureau family member OR a Russell County resident.  The applicant may attend a four year college/ university, a two year community college or vocational/technical school in Kansas.  The applicant should be active in the community, church and/or youth organizations,  have a 2.5 or higher GPA, financial need and a desire to achieve post-high school education. 4-H Council Scholarship & 4-H Development Fund Scholarship – Due April 1 – Russell County 4-H members who are active members for at least three years and are graduating seniors.

 

Russell Regional Hospital Auxiliary ScholarshipDue April 21 – Scholarship is offered to any Russell county resident, RRH employee or any student who attends a Russell County school.  The applicant must pursue a career in a medical field.  Upon satisfactory completion of one year, the recipient may apply for one additional year.  Three $500 scholarships will be provided.  Download Application

 

Wilson Communications Scholarship

For students who live in the Wilson, Brookville, Sylvan Grove, Lucas, Denmark, Tipton or Hunter communities (not schools). Scholarships for College Students and older

BETA DELTA of DELTA KAPPA GAMMA

Qualifications:  Students must a Junior or Senior in college or above attending a Kansas university completing a degree             in Education, with a minimum GPA of 2.5, AND a resident of Russell County, Kansas OR a Legacy of a Beta Delta                     Member. DAR Christopher Columbus Essay Contest

For grades 9-12.  Topic:  Technological advances have greatly changed our world since the voyages of Christopher Columbus.  If Christopher Columbus had just some of the technology we have today in 2016, how might this have changed his planning and carrying out of his voyages:  What technological advances would have been most beneficial to Christopher Columbus?  800-1,200 words. American Legion Heritage ScholarshipDue May 1 – The purpose of this award will be to assist a worthy       graduate of Russell High School, who has a direct line heritage to the American Legion  RE: great                       grandparents, grandparents, parents, brothers, or sisters, who have been, or are members of the American       Legion, it’s Ladies Auxiliary, or Sons of the American Legion.
