Wendy’s High School Heisman

Seniors may apply for Russell High School’s male or female nomination if they have a “B” average(3.0) GPA and participate in at least one sport by going to www.wendysheisman.com.  100 scholarships ranging from $1,000 up to $10,000.  First 1000 applicants get a $10 Wendy’s gift card.  90 state winners receive a $1,000 scholarship.  10 State winners move on a National Finalists.  Apply before October 2, 2017.

 

Horatio Alger Association Scholarship Programs

Mission:  To provide assistance to students who have need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. $7,000-$25,000 awards.   Eligibility requirements:  Commitment to earn a Bachelor’s degree, demonstrate financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income), display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, be involved in co-curricular and community service activities, 2.0 cumulative GPA, Apply online at:    scholars.horatioalger.org     by October 25. 

 

Kansas Masons Essay Contest

Each year the Kansas Masons award $12,000 in scholarship to Kansas Juniors or seniors in their essay contest.  The winner gets a $4,000 scholarship with smaller awards going to 2nd, 3rd and 4th place winners.   In addition, four $500 honorable mention scholarships are awarded.   Essays are due November 1, 2017.  Essay contest information and guidelines acan be accessed at:

Prudential Spirit of Community Award

This program honors students in grades 5-12 for outstanding community service.  Apply at: http://spirit.prudential.com   Click on Apply Now and follow the on-screen instructions.  Once you have completed your online application, go to the Certification page.  Submit your printed application to your principal.  Applications are due November 7.  Russell High School’s nominee will receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award and will become eligible to win an unrestricted award of $1,000 or more, an engraved medallion and an all–expense paid trip with a parent or guardian to Washington, C.C. next spring for four days of special recognition events.

 

Hixson Opportunity Award

Provides $5,250 per year and is renewable up to four years. This award is meant to help students who have faced significant personal challenges and financial hardship and is only available to Kansas residents attending the University of Kansas. Deadline to apply is January 5.

 

J.L.Cleland GLBT Non-discrimination Award

Provides a $7,500 per year and is renewable for up to four years. This award is meant for incoming KU freshman who have experienced discrimination, bullying and/or violence or those who have shown support for the GLBT community. Deadline to apply is February 1.

 

Nex-Tech “Break The Rules” Scholarships

Ten $1,000 scholarships.   Choose any method you want to tell what you are passionate about and how it has led to your chosen career.  We don’t care if you send us a video, slideshow, artwork, essay, whatever.  Submit your application electronically or by mail.  Apply by February 5 at: www.nex-tech.com/About/Community/Nex-TechYouthServices/Nex-TechScholarship.aspx

Dane Hansen Scholarships  

Hansen Leaders of Tomorrow, The Hansen Scholar, The Hansen Student Scholarships- For students pursuing a four year degree at a Kansas college.  $4,000-$10,000 renewable awards.  Qualifiers must have a 3.5 GPA and a minimum ACT of 21.  Students who meet these qualification must test take the Hansen test September 14th at Hays High School.  Students who score well on the test will be granted an interview.

 

Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day Video Contest

For grades 8-12.  Video must promote fatality prevention using themes such as (but not limited to):  distracted driving, seatbelts or texting while driving.  Video must be between six and sixty seconds in length.  Video must be submitted between July 1 and September 25.  Submit your video by uploading and sharing it on social media like Facebook or Twitter.  Submission post must include:  tagging the official Kansas Turnpike account, tagging the name of your school, using the hashtag #PTBOFvideo.   Questions?  Please contact:  kta-pr@ksturnpike.com

 

YoungARTS Scholarship        

If you are a visual, literary, design or performing artist between the ages of 15 and 18 or in grades 10-12  you could win up to $10,000 cash award.  Disciplines:  Cinematic arts, Dance, Jazz, Music, Photography, Theater, Visual Arts, Voice & Writing.  Registration closes October 14.  Apply online at:  www.youngarts.org/apply    For more info e-mail:  apply@youngarts.org

 

Dane Hansen Career and Technical Education Scholarship - For students pursuing a career or technical education program in Kansas.  Renewable $4,000 award as long as the program doesn’t lead to a four year degree. Applications and three reference letters due October 28.   No minimum GPA or tests are required for this scholarship.

 

Horatio Alger Association Scholarship Programs

DAR Christopher Columbus Essay Contest

Topic:  Technological advances have greatly changed our world since the voyages of Christopher Columbus.  If Christopher Columbus had just some of the technology we have today in 2016, how might this have changed his planning and carrying out of his voyages:  What technological advances would have been most beneficial to Christopher Columbus?  800-1,200 words. Due at RHS November 1. 

 

Red Ribbon Essay Contest

Theme:  “How knowledge of the dangers of drunk and drugged driving has helped you make smart, drug-free decisions as a teenager.”  For 8th-10th graders.  Essay must be typed in 12 point font Times New Roman and be 500-600 words in length.  Due November 1, 2016.  Prizes:  1st place $100, 2nd place $75, 3rd place $50.  For more information see Mr. Zachman.

 

Hagan Scholarship

For high achieving seniors in need of financial assistance to attend a four year college.  Must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and an ACT composite of 23 or higher.  Must work 240 hours in the 12 months prior to the start of each academic year of college.  Scholarships vary up to $10,000 per year but are renewable.  FAFSA EFC must be less than $7,500.  Application due November 15.  More info is available at:  www.hsfmo.org

 

Miss Kansas Teen USA Pageant- 

Prizes include cash wardrobe, travel and scholarships.  Three categories:  Personality Interviews, Physical Fitness in Athletic Wear and Poise and Beauty in Evening Gown.   Participants must be born between 1998 and 2002. Winner will compete for Miss Teen USA.  Competition will be in Mulvane, Kansas November 25-27.  www.misskansasusa.com

 

GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarships

Kelly Lutz (KLL) Memorial Foundation Scholarship

$2,000 renewable scholarship.  Applicants must have lost the life of at least one parent to cancer before the student turned 22.  Due January 10.  Essay required.  Info and application at:  http://kllscholarshipfund.org/

 

Better Business Bureau Video contest

Open to all high school students in Kansas  Plains.  Students may enter individually or form teams of 2 to 4 participants.$500 will be awarded for first place and $250 for second place.  Winners will be determined by how well the entry adheres to BBB’s brand, expresses the theme “Start With Trust” the quality of the video’s production and how many times it’s been viewed on BBB’s YouTube channel.  Must be submitted by Friday, January 13.  Complete details and required form can be found at:  bbbinc.org/      Click on the Student Video Contest icon.

 

Association of Educational Office Professionals (AEOP) Scholarship

For students interested in pursuing an Education or Business related career. Selection will be based on application, initiative, character, and/or other supporting factors.  Essay required.  Applications due January 20.  Click here for the application

 

Dane Hansen Community or Technical College Transfer Scholarships - For students transferring from a Kansas community college or technical college with a minimum of 32 credit hours or an applied science degree to a Public or private Kansas college or university.  Renewable $4,000 award.  Application and letters of reference are due February 1.

 

Bezos Scholarship Program

For 12 juniors and educators.  All expense paid scholarship to the Aspen Ideas Festival June 25-July 1.  Successful student candidates are ambitious young people who bring academic achievement, energy, excellence and a design to create positive change in their community.  Students apply online at:  www.BezosFamilyFoundation.org/Scholars by February 10.  The Principal will nominate a staff member if the student is selected.  With ongoing support, leadership training and $1,000 in seed funding , Scholar teams will launch sustainable Local Ideas Festivals to transform their schools and communities using the tools and leadership skills learned at the Aspen Ideas Festival.

 

Kansas Association of Directors of Plant Facilities scholarships

Three-$1,000 academic awards and one $1,000 technical scholarship.  For graduating seniors who are children of non-instructional support staff (buildings and grounds, food service or transportation position).  Apply by February 15 at:  http://kadpf.org/index.html   Click on the KADPF Scholarship Program tab.

 

Nex-Generation Scholarship programs – Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) Scholarships 

Scholarships range from $2,500-7,000.  High school seniors must receive services from Rural Telephone or Nex-tech, have at least a C grade point average and plan to return to a rural community following graduation from a technical school, a two or four year college.  Applications must be received by Nex-Tech by 4pm on February 24.   Applications available at:  https://www.nex-tech.com/About/Community/Nex-TechYouthServices.aspx

Nex-Generation Scholarship programsFRS Youth Tour

A competition for high school juniors for an all-expense paid trip plus $150 spending allowance to Washington D.C. Better Business Bureau Scott Meacham Student of Integrity Awards

Open to seniors in Nebraska, South Dakota, the Kansas Plains and Southwest Iowa.  Twelve $2,000 awards will be given.  BBB is looking for students who exemplify ethical behavior and personal integrity and respect for their peers, teachers and community.  Due March 10.  Download an application guide and required forms at:  http://go.bbb.org/1ASSm0kF

 

Westar Energy Craft Scholarships

$3,000 awards, renewable for two years.  Students must pursue a degree in electric power and distribution, power plant technology, industrial technology or other industry-related degrees.  Minimum ACT of 18 and minimum GPA of 2.5.Deadline to apply is March 15.  For scholarship details click here.  For more info go to:  WestarEnergy.com and click on “Scholarship Opportunities” under the Community Programs tab.

 

Kansas Junior Golf Scholarship

Five $6,000 Scholarships, payable $1,500 per school year.  This is an academic scholarship, but to be eligible  a student must have participated in junior golf activities, including high school golf.  Scholarships are awarded to Kansas high school seniors based on academic performance, leadership, a written essay and financial need.  Applications due March 24.  Scholarship details and a downloadable application are available at:  www.kansasgolf.org/foundation/scholarships or click here.

 

American Petroleum Institute Scholarships

Six renewable $1000 scholarships.  Two of the six scholarship will be given to Geology or Engineering majors.  Requirements:  Upper 50% of class; Parent or guardian must be employed in some phase of the oil industry.  Applications are due March 31.  Download Application

 

Kansas Financial Scholars 3rd Annual Essay Scholarship Contest

This contest is open to any high schoo senior who plans to atetdna Kansas school of higher education and who has partipcated in EverFi The stock Market Game, the Personal Finance Challenge or Life$marts.  In 1-2 pages, pick one of 3 financial challenges and write an essay incorporating lessons you’ve learned about personal finance and money management.  Then, in a 3-6 page essay, provide analysis showing how you will apply what you learned (or wrote about) to your life as you prepare for higher education. Kansas Seed Industry Association Scholarship

         This $1,000 award is for applicants must be high school seniors or college students who wiill attend college in              Kansas and who are seeking a degree in Agronomy, Ag Education, Ag Econ/Business, Ag Communications,                Grain/Milling Science, Ag Technology, Ag Farm Management or Horticulture.  Applications must be received by              April 10.  Download an application here.

 

Vietnam Veterans of American Scholarship

Applicants need not have a connection to a Vietnam Veteran.  Two $1,000 and one $500 scholarship will be awarded.  Applicants should  be reasonable conscientious students who have worked during high school and who have some evidence of good citizenship, such as volunteer activities. Kansas Board of Regents Career Technical Workforce Grant

$1000 scholarships for students in high cost, high demand, critical industry fields.  More information click here.  For a list of eligible programs click here.   Preference goes to students with financial need.  Apply by May 1.

Kansas Comprehensive Grant – For needy Kansas students attending any Kansas public or private colleges or universities.  Students must complete a FAFSA.  Due April 1.

Kansas State Scholarship- Must take the ACT by December and complete the Regents Recommended Curriculum.  If you qualify you will be notified by March.  Priority Deadline:  May 1.

Kansas Ethnic Minority Scholarship- Due May 1;  Must complete the Regents Recommended Curriculum  and have a minimum ACT of 21.

Teacher Service Scholarship- Applicants must want to teach in the following areas:   Special Education, Foreign language, math, Science or ESL or be willing to teach in an underserved geographic area in Kansas such as Topeka, Wichita, Kansas City or western Kansas.  Deadline:  May 1

Nursing Service Scholarship- Applicant must locate a licensed sponsor to provide partial scholarship funding and employment upon licensure.  Due May 1.

Military Service Scholarship- Candidates must have served in any military operation after 9/11/2001 for which they received hostile fire pay.  Deadline:  May 1

Kansas National Guard Educational Assistance – Applicants must be an enlisted member of a Kansas Air/Army National Guard unit.  Deadline:  May 1.

Kansas ROTC Service Scholarship – Student agrees to accept a commission as a Second Lieutenant and serve for not less than four years as a commissioned officer in the Kansas Army National Guard.  This program is only available at KSU, PSU, KU, Washburn University and some community colleges.  Contact the ROTC program at a participating school for more information.

 

Abbot & Fenner Scholarship

To apply for this $1000 scholarship you will need to write an essay on the topic below. The essay should be between 500 and 1000 words. Your submissions must be sent to us by email at: scholarships@abbottandfenner.com

Horation Alger Career & Technical Scholarship

Criteria:  Students nmust complete high school by Spring 2017 aned plan to enroll in a non-profit post secondary instutution by Fall 2017, exhibit a strong committmenbt to pursue and complete a career or technical program, demostrate critical financial need (must be Pell grant eligibile), demonstrate perseverance in overcoming adveristy, be involved in community activities, be 30 years or younger.  Apply online before June 15, 2017 at:  application.horationagler.org.  Your application must inlcued a full copy of the SAR (Student Aid Report)
