End of 1st Nine Weeks and Fall Parties

The first nine weeks ends on Friday, October 20th. We are very proud of the work the students have accomplished.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be Thursday, Oct. 26th and Monday, Oct 30th. A note with your student’s conference time

will be sent home soon. Fall Parties will be on Halloween Day, Oct. 31st at 2:45pm. Students may bring their

costume to wear for the 2:30pm parade around school. Please do not send accessories (ex: swords, dolls, flashlights,

etc.) Masks are fine, but the students may not wear makeup. Please have your child bring his/her costume in a bag. They will

change into their costume at 2:15pm just prior to the parade.

The Book Fair will be located in the Computer Lab.

 If you would like to join your student for lunch, please call before 9:00am the day of.

PTO

The next meeting will be at Simpson Elementary on Oct. 3rd at 5:30pm. Our Carnival will be Nov.18th. Please attend this

meeting for more details.

Drug Free

Red Ribbon Week is the last week in October. Be watching for more information in your student’s backpack!

Beverage Tabs Collected

Third grade classes are collecting beverage tabs for Ronald McDonald House. You may turn tabs in any time throughout the

school year.

Box Tops

PTO is collecting Box Tops at Bickerdyke.  Pleasesend Box Tops to the BES Office at any time throughout the school year!

Vision/Hearing Screenings

We will be checking your student’s vision and hearing this month on the 11th and 12th. If we find something that needs your

attention, we will send a note home.

Shining Stars

Mrs. Homeier, Counselor During this month, we will be practicing the Character Counts Pillar of Trustworthiness. Shining

Star coupons will be awarded to any student who:

• Is Honest

• Is Loyal

• Keeps Promises

• Does not Cheat or Steal

• Is Reliable/does what he says he will do

• Builds a Good Reputation

• Has the Moral Courage to Stand Up for what is Right, even when it is Hard to do.

4th Grade Field Trip, Kid’s Ag Day

The fourth grade classes will be traveling to a farm outside of Ellsworth, KS on Wednesday, October 11th. They will be given a

tour and presentations on farm operations. Thanks to the Extension Office for putting this trip

together. Be watching your student’s backpack for a permission slip, which will need to be signed and returned.

Public Service Announcement From Russell Police Dept.

Halloween is the children’s night for Trick or Treats and Ghost and Goblins. Please take extra care to ensure your children are

prepared. As an added safety measure, the Russell Police Department and Russell County Attorney Daniel Krug will be

providing Glow SIcks on Halloween Night. The first 300 children to come to the Police Department after 5:00 P.M. on

Halloween will receive a glow sIck and a flyer highlighIng safety tips for Halloween. The glow sIcks will help drivers and

parents see the children as they walk through the community Trick or TreaIng. Some safety tips to ensure the children have a

safe and fun-filled evening are:

*Choose a costume that is easy to walk in, easy to see out of and can be seen by car drivers.

*If Trick or TreaIng after dark, wear a glow sIck and bright colored clothing.

*Loose costumes or unsafe shoes can cause falls or accidents.

*If wearing a mask, make sure you can see out of it. Take off the mask before crossing the street.

*Sharp or pointed toy weapons/costume props are dangerous.

*Billowing costumes, false hair and wigs are unsafe around candles.

*Use a flashlight after dark.

*Walk in groups and cross the street together.

*Have your parents or grandparents check all your treats before you eat them.

*Unpackaged items should be discarded. If you have any quesIons or would like more informaIon about Halloween Safety,

please contact the Russell Police Department at 483-2121.

 

NATIONAL BULLYING PREVENTION AWARENESS MONTH

 

The Board of Education meets at 5:00pm the second Monday of every month at the Central Office. The public is always welcome to attend.
